Technology & the Translator Education Curriculum

Moderator: Adam Wooten

Presenters: Alan Melby & Daryl Hague

This panel will consist of three persons who will present their views on one or more of the following topics and then invite the audience to participate in the discussion

  • the spectrum from raw machine translation to human translation that was accepted by the United Nations translation technology conference (JIAMCATT) as the recommended framework for discussions with upper management about machine translation and incorporated into the FIT position paper on machine translation
  • a proposed new skill that all translators acquire if they don’t already have it: language services advisement relative to the “spectrum” in topic one
  • how to adjust the translator education curriculum to help students acquire this new skill without neglecting traditional skills, such as translation proper
